Washington Psychologist

Welcome. You have found the webpage for the clinical psychology practice of Dr. Tilmer Engebretson.

If you are experiencing life stresses, emotional distress, or difficulties with coping, I may be able to help. Come take some steps and see if our working together can make a difference.

I am a clinical psychologist (PhD) and I work with individuals (18 years or older) to address a variety of emotional, behavioral, interpersonal, and life difficulties. These difficulties may involve stress, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, anger, marital distress, interpersonal problems, trauma/PTSD, or coping with chronic physical illnesses. The following are my main areas of specialty.

▪ Anxiety Disorders (e.g., general anxiety, OCD, phobias, panic)

▪ Depressive Disorders (e.g., major depression, bipolar disorder)

▪ Couples and relationship difficulties

▪ Stress and coping

▪ Health psychology (e.g., coping with medical issues, pain)

▪ Trauma/PTSD

▪ Anomalous/Transformative Experiences

I work in a cognitive behavioral conceptual framework (CBT) and use a range of skills and tools to help people improve functioning, feel better, and better cope with life’s difficulties. In the process of our interactive work together, we will clarify what processes are disruptive and help you learn ways to better cope, adjust and/or deal with those difficulties. In this way, proactive engagement with your world is increased, stress is reduced, and life satisfaction is enhanced.

The cognitive behavioral approach (CBT) is very flexible and useful. Important goals include understanding your learning history, increasing insight into how disruptive processes play out in the present (including experiences from the past), and learning how to change those processes in the present.

If you think I may be of assistance to you, please feel free to contact me either by using the Contact form in the header above, or via my office phone (571-633-0600).
